Fresh water flushing is the single most important maintenance procedure a boater can perform to prevent corrosion in an outboard motor. It dislodges any buildup of mud, sand or silt ingested by the outboard’s water pump. Left unchecked, that debris can accumulate in an outboard’s cooling passages, restricting the amount of water available to cool the engine. An improperly cooled engine also encourages exhaust system corrosion—because it increases exhaust temperatures.
Add years to the life of your outboard by keeping your engine clean and properly cooled. Freshwater flushing is recommended after EVERY use in salt or dirty water.
